I'm Not Sure Where This Is Going, But I'm Pretty Sure It's Nowhere.

Sometimes I write an entire post in my head before I sit down at the computer. Sometimes I start out with just the idea of what I want to write about and start writing, seeing where that leads me. But then I asked myself, what would happen if I just sat down and just began to write? Start with no topic, no plan and no direction, and just write and see what happens.

I'll admit I'm cautious, but I'm not the "must have everything organised and planned out" type either. On the contrary, all I've even needed to get something done was a general direction and enough fare to pay for the ride. I don't need to have it all mapped out, but I still feel comfortable with having a general direction. This is the complete opposite to Mrs. C's personality. While she is the type to lunge headfirst and full speed into something, she needs a plan, even if it's after taking that first step. She needs to know how she's getting there, what route she'll take, what would be the best time to move to avoid traffic, if she should wear comfortable shoes and so on and so on. Yes, she's that neurotic anal (I wish) thorough.

But I digress... Where was I going with this? Oh yeah! Nowhere... Or somewhere... But I guess that's the point.

Wait, there's a point?

Anybody ever use Zemanta? It's this software that analyzes your posts as you type and helps you with pictures and related links and whatnot. It normally works pretty well but right now one of the things it's showing me is a picture of a man named Georg Lunge (I had to Google who he was). For those who didn't know (like myself) he's a German chemist who lived in the late 1800's to the early 1900's and he has nothing to do with anything I'm writing.
Georg Lunge
That's it?! You're just going to read the first sentence in my bio and leave it at that? I hope my name comes up in a pop-quiz or something someday.

From this I can only deduce that I've gone so far off the reservation with this post that I've confused the program. I can only imagine what I'm doing to everyone else.

Wow! Those are a lot more words than I expected for a post that's basically about nothing. I feel like I should apologize or something for making you read all this drivel, but then again, it isn't like I'm making you sit through this. It isn't like I'm secretly lurking in a shadowy corner, pointing a gun and expecting a three-page report (double-spaced, use serif typeface, citations where necessary) on a) your impression of this post and how it may or may not contribute adversely to climate change and the global economy, or b) how the work of Georg Lunge helped shape the face of modern chemistry (he's your problem now). No, it's nothing like that.

It's due by Thursday.

Hey! That reminds of a cartoon I saw on Facebook once:
Wait! No... that's not it...

Oh, I remember. It 's this one:
Nobody said anything about a coherent story. Did they?
So, yeah, I think it's safe to say that I've tested the limits of this exercise (and your patience) as much as I can for now. If you stuck with this all the way to the end you deserve a standing ovation.

Here you go.
Unfortunately, the answer is still no, you can't get those last few minutes of your life back. If you were expecting me to come to some kind of point, the only one you'll get is me pointing out that I warned you in the title.

No refunds!

If You Can't Say Something Nice...

I've been laying low the past few days. Mostly because I've been a bit down of late. Long story short, I'm still unemployed, it still sucks and trying to stay positive can be tiring.

But this isn't going to be a whiny "Boo-Hoo! My life stinks!" posts. That's not how I roll. I don't have anything nice to say about the unemployment situation so I won't say anything about it. I appreciate the fact that this blog is my forum for whatever I want it to be and I could sulk if I wanted, but I do enough of that out in the real world.

You're welcome.

Anyway, in the week or so since I last posted other things have been going on. As I may have mentioned before, the country I live in is Trinidad and Tobago. We had our Independence Day celebrations recently and, this year, T&T turned 50. Mrs C and I celebrated the same way we always do: by barricading ourselves inside and having a DVD marathon.

Don't get me wrong! It isn't that we're not patriotic or anything. Some years ago, before we were married, we took some younger relatives to see the fireworks display in the capital and had THE worst time trying to get out of the city after it was over. We had to walk all the way from Queen's Park Savannah to downtown Port-of-Spain - with small children in tow - because we couldn't get a taxi.

Here's a map so you can have a better idea.
Trust me. Even for a small island, it's far.
Even after that, it took forever for me to get home after I dropped the yet to be Mrs C off. From then, we decided to skip the main attraction until we had our own car.

Other than that, I started school this week. No, I haven't changed majors again. My recent romp with The Paper hasn't broken my resolve. I still want to be a journalist, but I do think I need to back off a bit and finish school first. Though it was a bit of a concern that the lecturer who was helping me choose my courses for this semester (a former journalist himself, mind you) seemed to be trying to dissuade me from this pursuit.

Things in the school are improving! We've only had one major hiccup so far. Seems one of the classes I signed up for isn't at the campus I go to but at one of the east campuses. We're talking faaaaar to the east. Think the map I showed you earlier times-I dunno-1,000!!! Even travelling, that's way too far for me, especially when it comes to leaving there to get home at 8pm. Now I'm being told that all the other classes are full so I'll most likely end up taking two instead of three this semester, which keeps me a student there longer.

Grrr...

Oh! I added a new set of stalker buttons to the sidebar over on the right. Make it easier to get more of me.
I mean these.
Mouse over them. I made them say funny things. You can even click them too (Hint!-Hint!).

That's basically been my week, in a nutshell.

Just Another Random Weekend Wrap-Up.

It has been some time since I did one of these wrap-up posts, but there were a few loose ends I wanted to tie up. Plus a few random updates:

- First let me take a moment to say a special thank you to those of you who have clicked on that follow button in the past few weeks. I feel awesome and you all are awesome for making me feel awesome.

Awesome!

- By the way, in case you were wondering, I'm still unemployed. While I tried not to let getting fired from the paper draw get to me, the fact that working there sucked so hard did make me (briefly) doubt my resolve towards journalism. But only briefly. I've been sending out applications like crazy, but so far, crickets.

- I visited the parents on Friday. I have to admit I don't go see them as much as I should. As a result, Momma C has resorted to some shrewd tactics to lure me over.

Momma C: So when am I seeing you?
Me: I dunno. I'll let you know.
Momma C: Uh-huh. I've heard that before. Well, you better not take too long. The mango tree in the front yard - you know, the Julie-mango tree - is just so full this season. "Julies" are your favorite, aren't they? (she knows they are.)
Me: Yeah.
Momma C: Thought so. Anyway, The neighbours have been helping themselves to the ones hanging over into the street, but I picked some and set them aside for you.
Me: Thanks.
Momma C: But you know your nephew and nieces will finish them off if you don't get here soon. Diva (aka Mrs. C) loves "Julies" too, doesn't she?

As you can see, I didn't really have a chance. So, like I said, on Friday I went over... and I came back with these:
I know! Those are a whole lot of mangoes.
With all these mangoes, Mrs. C decided to take the opportunity to get creative. She got out her trusty blender and tossed a few in along with some watermelon and paw paw (some of you may know it as papaya) and voilà!
Mmmmmm... Fruity goodness!
What can I say? She loves juicing stuff. We still have enough left over to last us a while but if we aren't tired of mangoes by the the time they're done, the folks have the hook-up.
Some of what I didn't take that day.
Just the excuse Momma C needs to get me to visit more often. At least until mango season passes.

While we're here, Let's go over the stuff I posted during the week. Shall we? First, let's start with some posts I did right here:
- It all began on Monday. Once again, I used the World of Warcraft to illustrate the issue of my diminutive stature. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration. But I am short, and so is Mrs. C. Only she doesn't like to talk about it  (FYI - She did eventually find the post).

- On Thursday, there was a pseudo-post to lead you to another post to talk about pseudo-porn on a pseudo-porn site. Believe me, it's not as confusing as it sounds.

- Finally, on Friday, I drew a simple cartoon to illustrate some my struggle a particular form of exercise.

Now it's on to Sprocket Ink:
As always, I have my Tuesday and Thursday slots of new-meets-snarky goodness.

- Tuesday's post looked into the ill-conceived idea of Japanese group to use a cartoon depicting a wife's level of anger as a representation of dangerous nuclear radiation levels.

- Then on Thursday I explored PETA's new .xxx adult website. There I made the disappointing discovery that this X-rated site actually had nothing X-rated on it. Not even a single nipple! Well... if you look really hard you can kinda see Ron Jeremy's but I ain't gonna. I also introduce the phrase "PETA Pocket Porn" which I may copyright if I'm not too lazy.

********
And that's what what I've been up to. I'll go have me a mango now.

Random Thoughts Of A Sleep Deprived Mind.

For those of you who have noticed my lack of posting this week, I've been in the midst of end of semester exams. For those of you who haven't, well... I haven't been posting this week... because of... exams.

I recently finished a final project for one of my classes which kept me up until 4:30am and I haven't had chance to get a full night's sleep since.

I think that is the reason I've had all kinds of random things bouncing around my head that I thought I could slap together were funny enough to make a post. Kinda like my old "Random Tuesday Thought" posts I used to do back in the day.

I blame sleep deprivation for what comes next...

- The other day I was folding a shirt when I realized it was inside out. The first thing I thought about was hitting the "Undo" button. That's when I realized I've probably been spending too much time at the computer. Then the next thing I thought of was to blog about it.

- We've been battling a serious ant infestation in our home. I think they're winning. The other morning they scored a victory by getting inside our electric kettle's wiring and rendering it useless. Don't ask me how.

- I learned the other day that two jumbo hot dogs are my limit. I know. I’m a total lightweight. I was able to figure this out very out soon after jumbo hot dog number four.

Not a good day.

- Up the street there's a yard with two really big dogs. I think one of is mixed with a smaller breed because his front legs are noticeably shorter than his back legs. I call him Dogosaurus Rex. He amuses me.

I miss those RTT days.

I'd say I need a nap but I'm actually about to leave for work. Plus, this is a six-day work week for me and I still have a Math assignment and two exams left.

Joy.
